TMUG Meeting - March 10 2008
From TMUG - The Triangle Macintosh Users Group
March 10, 2008
— the Iconfactory —
Local North Carolina Mac developer the Iconfactory has kindly agreed to come over from their Greensboro base and push some pixels our way. Designer and founder Ged Maheux, plus webmaster Anthony Piraino, will demo some of their icon specialty software and answer questions. The company got started in 1996 on AOL. They hosted the first Pixelpalooza contest in 1997, have been included on Guy Kawasaki's Evangelist and mentioned in WIRED magazine. The Iconfactory project / client list includes Apple, ACT!, PalmOne, Red Hat, Microsoft, and Stuffit Deluxe. Some of their products are:
- CandyBar - an OS 10.5 utility which customizes icons and the dock
- IconBuilder - an OS X filter used to create icons with Photoshop or Fireworks
- iPulse - an OS X utility which monitors system performance via a customizable user interface
- Twitterrific - an OS X app for reading and posting to Twitter
- xScope - an OS X set of tools for on-screen graphics and layouts
These guys like to have fun too — they have created Frenzic, a puzzle based game which runs on OS X with a version for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Apparently it's pretty addictive, and Ged said they will give away some licenses as door prizes.
Before the pixel pushers take over the program, MacVantage's Bob Chandler will take 15 or 20 minutes and answer Mac questions from the floor — a super TMUG tradition. As always, our monthly meetings start at 6:30 pm, are free, and are open to the public. There will be door prizes for members. Annual memberships and renewals are available for $35, and includes an OSX TMUG sticker.
(Attendance at the March meeting was ~45.)
