TMUG Support
From TMUG - The Triangle Macintosh Users Group
Welcome to the support index for the TMUG site. Most of the information here is for the benefit of members that use the site's features, but there are other nuggets of interest as well. Browse below for a quick index; the content can be found further down the page:

I'm a New Member - What Do I Need to Know to Use This Site?
If you have come to this page, it probably means you are a new member or an existing member that needs to review TMUG website access information. The following sections explain your member login, Webdisk access, your tmug.org email, and the TMUG mailing lists.
Member Login. You may login to the Members Only! area of the site via the Members Only! login located in the "members" section of the left-hand sidebar on any page of TMUG.org. Logging in will allow you to check on special offers, use Webmail to access your tmug.org email, use the file manager to move files to your webdisk space, and review your contact information. After you log in, you will see a table, the left side of which is your member info, the right side of which is labeled links. You should be able to edit your personal information if any of it needs to be updated. Also when you log in you will see your membership expiration date. If it is incorrect, or you are unable to change any of your personal information, please contact support at tmug dot org for help.
Webdisk. As a TMUG member, you have 1 Gigabyte of disk space available. You can use the space for file storage or to create a web page, for example. Currently, there are 3 ways to transfer files to and from your webdisk. The 1st is via the file manager, available as a link on the right side of your member page after you log in. The 2nd is via WebDAV, and the 3rd is via ftp. Instructions for using WebDAV and ftp can be found in the Webdisk support article on this page & in the TMUG WebDisk support page.
Email. As a TMUG member you have an email address, your_username@tmug.org, and 50 Megabytes of email storage space. In order to get (POP3) or send (SMTP) email (and also to do IMAP), you must point your email client to mx.tmug.org. (The following is no longer applicable. Using webmail is a special situation - the sidebar (look to your left) has links to the to old webmail and the new webmail. The new webmail is the one you should be using going forward. However, for the time being, the old webmail is still working. You will have to use your old password to get to old webmail; we suggest you clean out the old webmail, because it will be going away soon.)
Mailing Lists. TMUG hosts TMUG-list, a general discussion list for most all things Macintosh. In order to participate in the list, you must subscribe yourself. For manual sign up directions, see the support article on this page. Additional information, including subscription instructions, how to post to the list, and detailed notes & hints, is published at the TMUG discussion list support page. All new TMUG members are automatically added to our Announce List (um ok, not yet). This is a low traffic list, but let us know if you do not want to be subscribed.
Be sure to check our Member Site Status blog for informal discussion about the TMUG server and how it is set up and used. A great deal of valuable information can be gleaned there.
In December 2005 we re-embarked on our website redesign. Please bear with us while we continue working to improve your member experience!

How Do I Join the TMUG Discussion List?
TMUG has an email discussion list that you may subscribe to in order to receive important announcements and participate in Apple and Macintosh-related discussions — all in the convenience of your favorite email client. The TMUG-discussion list is open to anyone who wants to participate – member and nonmember alike.
Subscribing
There are two ways to subscribe to the TMUG Disscusion List.
- Go to the TMUG-list Info Page and fill out the web form.
- Send an email to tmug-list-request@list.tmug.org with the subject subscribe from the email address you want to use to receive & send posts to the list. In the body of the email type: subscribe tmug-list YOUR_FIRST_NAME YOUR_LAST_NAME. Do not write anything else in the email.
A subscription confirmation email will be sent to you by Mailman, the listserv app. Once you have confirmed, the request will be held for approval by a list admin. The process usually takes less than a day.
Posting to the discussion list
To post a message to TMUG-list, send an email to tmug-list@list.tmug.org. Your message will then be sent out to all of the people who are subscribed to the TMUG-list. Go to the TMUG Disscusion List support page for a detailed discussion on how to use the TMUG-list.
Unsubscribing
To unsubscribe from TMUG-list, send an email to tmug-list-request@list.tmug.org with the subject unsubscribe. The email must be sent from the subscribed address, not from a different address. In the first line of the body of the email, type: unsubscribe tmug-list. Do not write anything else in the email.

How Do I Connect to My TMUG Webdisk?
TMUG members have access to an easy-to-use WebDisk for storing files or posting personal web pages.
The WebDisk is based on the same WebDAV technology that powers Apple's .Mac / .me iDisk. You simply mount your webDisk in the Finder, then copy or edit the files exactly like you would in a folder or volume on your local hard disk (albeit slower due to it being physically remote). Each member has 1 Gigabyte of space available to use.
Mac OS X (10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, & 10.6):
- From the Finder, select the Go menu.
- Select the Connect to Server menu item.
- In the resulting dialog, enter the URL for your webDisk in the Server Address: field as http://webdisk.tmug.org/username/.
- Click on the Connect button.
- Another dialog will appear titled WebDAV File System Security Notice (10.2 Jaguar-Only).
- Click the Continue button to proceed (10.2 Jaguar-Only).
- In the WebDAV File System Authentication dialog, enter your member username and password into the appropriate fields.
- Your TMUG WebDisk should mount as a volume with the same name as your TMUG username.
- Upload, download, or edit files and folders on your WebDisk, just as you would on any local volume (albeit slower...).
- Remember to disconnect from the TMUG server when you are done by ejecting / umounting your WebDisk. Failure to disconnect will consume excess server resources and may cause unusual behavior if you access your WebDisk from another location.
- If you have uploaded HTML files to your WebDisk, you may view them in your web browser at the http://members.tmug.org/username/ URL.
Example : Allen Emory's TMUG Website
WebDAV client apps are available to use instead of access via the Finder. Goliath is a popular app, especially with OS 9.
To access your WebDisk from Windows, you will need to set it up as a "Web Folder" (in Microsoft terminology.) This basically involves mapping a network drive to a drive letter. We recommend that you choose a "high" drive letter that is not currently in use (e.g. "T" for TMUG, or "W" for WebDisk).
Alternatively, you may connect to your WebDisk space via ftp, using the URL ftp://sftp.tmug.org. For this, you will need an ftp client (e.g. Fetch, Cyberduck). Use your member username and password to log in. As the domain name suggests, we are planning to provide true sftp access as well, but this has not been implemented yet.
Please send us an email at support at tmug dot org if you are having trouble with your WebDisk or access to it.
